In Connect 6, students take turns drawing cards that contain a sentence with a missing word. Students must use their knowledge of contractions and their expanded form to complete the sentence and cover the space on the game board. All game board activities include words found in the word sort lists aligned with Words Their Way. The game play involves friendly competition and a recording sheet that makes it easy for the teacher to check students' understanding of the contractions during play.

In the “Match it Up!” card game, students take turns asking their partner for a contraction, a contraction's expanded form, or a sentence with a missing contraction in order to make a match. Played much like “Go Fish!,” this game can be modified to use as an independent activity.
