Want to elevate your word study block? With these games and independent activities for Homophones with Long Vowels, word study can be more fun and engaging for our students in the Within Word Pattern stage! This bundle focuses on homophones, reviewing many of the common long-vowel patterns within the homophones and homographs (including long a, long e, long o, and r controlled vowels).
The download for each sort includes a partner game and an independent game (that can also be modified to play with a partner). The partner games found in Unit 7 include “make a match” board games and a “Connect 6” board game. The independent activity for each sort in Unit 7 is “Memory Match!,” a fun card game. It is my hope that these activities help you increase student engagement and personal teaching joy during word study, spelling, or word work. Versatility and consistency (not an oxymoron!) are built right in for you with all of the activities in the Unit 7 bundle having the same format, you won’t have to teach students how to play with each new word sort!

Who are these games and activities for?
> > > These resources were developed with 3rd - 5th graders in mind, but could successfully be used in lower grades within small group lessons and with teacher guidance.
> > > These games and activities are designed for students in the late stages of Within Word Pattern. Students should have a firm grasp on various spelling patterns including CVCe, CVVC, less common long vowel patterns, r-controlled vowel patterns, dipthongs and ambiguous vowel pattern, and beginning & ending complex consonants and should be already familiar with many of the homophone pairs.
