Mix some fun into your word study block! With these games and independent activities for Introduction to R-Controlled Vowels and Contractions, you can transform word study into a highly anticipated time of day for your students in the Letter Name-Alphabetic stage! This r controlled vowels and contractions bundle engages students in identifying the differences in sound between CVC words with short o and a vs. CVC words that have an r immediately following the vowel, changing the vowel sound. Additionally, students are introduced to the most common contractions and practice identifying their meaning as well as getting familiar with where to place the apostrophe.
The download for each sort includes a partner game and an independent activity (that can also be modified to play with a partner). The partner games found in Unit 7 include board games and a card game. The independent activities found in Unit 7 include Spin Cover Build Write, a picture board and spinner activity. It is my hope that these activities help you increase student engagement and personal teaching joy during word study, spelling, or word work!
