Partner Games:
In the board games, students match the vowel patterns they draw from the card pile to words on the game board to make their move along the game board path. The game play involves friendly competition and a recording sheet that makes it easy for the teacher to check that students understood the vowel patterns and hold students accountable to staying on task.

Students then build and record the word that they covered. Spin, Cover, Build, Write picture boards include transfer words--words that are not directly included in the aligned sort list but have the same vowel pattern, giving students the opportunity to encounter new words that fit the patterns they are studying.
