Independent Activity:

In the Spin, Cover, Build, Write activity, students choose a picture board from the 4 versions, spin for a vowel pattern or clue, and cover images of words that match the vowel pattern or hint they spun. Students then build and record the word that they covered. Spin, Cover, Build, Write picture boards include transfer words--words that are not directly included in the aligned sort list but have short a or long a (CVC or CVCe), giving students the opportunity to encounter new words that fit the patterns they are studying.
