In the Carnival Themed board games, students take turns drawing a picture or word card and covering the appropriate CVC word on the game board, trying to collect the most words to win the game. All game board activities include words found in the word sort lists aligned with Words Their Way. The game play involves friendly competition and a recording sheet that makes it easy for the teacher to check that students understood the word families of their game.

In the Spin Cover Build Write activities, students choose a picture board from the 4 versions, spin for a word family using the spinner and cover images of words that match the word family or hint they spun. Students are then challenged to build and/or write the word being depicted by the image that corresponds with a particular word family.
