In Picking Daisies (sort 12), students take turns drawing picture cards and finding the appropriate beginning consonant card on the game board in order to build –at CVC words. All game board activities include words found in the word sort lists aligned with Words Their Way. Game play involves friendly competition and a recording sheet that makes it easy for the teacher to check students' accuracy of building -at words during play.

In Connect 5 (sorts 13-18), students take turns drawing a picture or word card and covering the corresponding picture or word on the game board, trying to connect five consecutive spaces to win the game.

★ Independent Activities ★

In the Say, Listen, Match Card Game for sort 12, students take turns trying to match a picture to its corresponding CVC word. They turn over two cards, say the word or word being depicted, and listen to see if the two cards both represent the same word. This fun game is played much like the card game "Match" with the winner having the most matches at the end of the game.

In the Spin Cover Build Write activities (sorts 13-18), students choose a picture board from the 4 versions, spin for a word family or clue and cover images of words that match the word family or hint they spun. Students then build the word with letter tiles (optional) and record the word of the picture they covered.
