★ Partner Games ★
In the Say, Listen, Match Card Games for sorts 1-6, students take turns listening for sound matches. They turn over two picture cards, say the words being depicted, and listen to see if the two vowel sounds match (both short or both long). This fun game is played much like the card game "Match" with the winner having the most matches at the end of the game.

The game play involves friendly competition and a recording sheet that makes it easy for the teacher to check that students understood the vowel patterns and hold students accountable to staying on task.

In the Spin and Cover activity (sorts 1-6), students choose a picture board from the 4 versions, spin for a vowel sound or clue and cover images of words that match the vowel sound or hint they spun. Students then record whether the word they covered makes a short vowel sound or long vowel sound.
In Spin, Cover, Build, Write (sorts 7-12), students choose a picture board from the 4 versions, spin for a vowel pattern or clue, and cover images of words that match the vowel pattern or hint they spun. Spin, Cover, Build, Write picture boards include transfer words--words that are not directly included in the aligned sort list but have the same vowel pattern, giving students the opportunity to encounter new words that fit the patterns they are studying.
